 Arts and literature express how people think and feel about all aspects of life, including our built and natural environments. Analytical, expressive, realist, or abstract, artists’ and writers’ insights, commentary, exposition, and appreciation of their environments give us all something to respond to. 

 “Cities and landscapes are illustrations of our spiritual and material worth. They not only express our values but give them a tangible reality.” – Social and cultural factors influencing the design and management of spaces, and how communities construct spaces that reflect or obscure their values. 

Innovation in physics, chemistry, materials science, geology, mathematics, computer science, engineering and biology impact the environment. Let’s look at some of the scientific and technological research that might lead to changes in how natural and built environments are protected, created, managed, or organized.
